Ok so I got an 06 Buddy

Thing had been sitting for a couple years so we changed the gas, cleaned the carb and off it went!

Thing'd hit 60 or 65, not smooth, a little choppy, but quick all the same

Put it to sleep for the night, changed the oil and the plug and now it tops out at 40

Double checked oil and plug switching back and forth and recleaned the carb, runs smooth now but still tops out at 40 and takes its time getting there

So I'm thinking coil or CDI (?) but I can't find it!

Is it under the cowl or something?

If it has been siting for a couple of years I'd also open up the transmission, check/clean the rollers/variator, and check belt for dry rot. All combined this could be affecting speed.

Also, you might need to clean the carb again. Some crud may have loosened up and clogged a jet or something.

I'd change the gear oil too if you haven't already.

Make sure that you installed the carb's vacuum slide correctly. Improperly installed or a tare in the diaphragm will cause the symptoms you mentioned.

CDI is under the front panel ("windshield") but I doubt thats it. Usually a bad CDI will give no spark at all. A bad ignition coil usually gives "choppy" acceleration or no spark at all. A bad stator, usually the pulse generator or pick up is bad, will stall at idle but run ok or have no spark at all.

What should the setting on the mix screw be?

Also want to check your fuel filter to make sure it isn't full of gunk.

Did you check the new plugs gap? If not, double check that gap, if it's off that may be the issue. Also, double check the wire to the plug and make sure it is on secure.

I've started to wonder if I put the wrong oil filter on it

Put on a Hiflo HF183, supposed to replace piaggio 483727 but the one that was on there was a pgo 6d24 (probably original)

Can't find an oil filter # in the book

I believe my husband and I use the same oil filter (he has an '09 Piaggio Fly, and I have an '09 Buddy 125). I'll go down to the garage and check out the number on the side of the filter in the morning, as we have a few extras stored in a plastic bag down there...

I'm assuming the '06 & the '09 Buddys use the same oil filter, but I don't know that for a fact. Scooterworks could tell you the correct one for sure.

I have no idea, but here's a link to where you can find the service manual. Hopefully you can find it in there.

Anyone know about where the mix screw should be?

We started at 1 1/4 for lack of counting

500 mile tune up video says 2 1/2 so I'll be trying that too when I get the CVT back together.

Also gonna do the valves if I can find a .003 feeler gauge (thinnest I've got is .006) but I'm pretty sure it's the oil filter.

Did the research and found out it's the wrong one so that's what I'm suspecting.

197 is what they're calling for

183 is 5mm shorter so I'll bet it's bottoming out

So I'm thinking plug wire again unless I put the sliders in wrong

Did you tripple check the oil to be sure you did not over-fill it?

They're saying they think it's the tranny again though I changed out the rollers so I guess I'm changing them back and seeing what happens

Plug keeps coming out tan/ grey

Wondering if maybe the belt stretched overnight from sudden use

Would that affect it much?

The membrane on top of the carb apparently has to be seated JUST right and it wasn't
