Buddy 125 Won't Stay Running

I purchased a used 2008 Genuine Buddy 125cc in July. It ran fine for the first few months and now it does not.
I dunno if this was a coincidence or if it has anything to do with the issues, but it all started after my brother accidentally left the ignition in the on position for a week. I had to start attached it to one of those trickle chargers in order for it to start.
Now, it will start, but it does not stay running for very long. In fact, you can hear it struggling while it is on. It'll run for less than a minute and then it will die. I'll try to ride it around the block and it will go for a very short period of time, but it will die while riding or when I stop. When I hear it start to die I'll give it some more gas and it will pep up for second, but then it'l just start to die again. I'm a completely clueless chick and I have no idea what to do with this thing.
The fellow I purchased it from said he rode it for a month, dropped it while turning, and then never rode it again. It is a 2008 and it had like 247 miles on it when I bought it. Like I said, it ran great for the first few months. I don't have any mechanical knowledge, but it never sounded like it does now. It has gusto and now it just sounds ill.
I looked through some threads... I tried to loosen the cap in case of the vapor lock thing and that did not help. I did not try adjusting the idle as it's too dark to do so at the moment.
Can anyone help me trouble shoot the problem? My brother knows mechanical stuff so he can help me if it is complex. I figured it'd be better for me to ask then to start fiddling with things I know nothing about.
Thanks in Advance Everyone!
