First Time Poster:

Good Morning, I have a 2013 Buddy 125 that I've had for 4 weeks or so. I was riding to work this morning, my usual commute (about 5 miles), usual speed (btw 25-40 mph with stoplights), and about 3/4 of the way here after stopping at a light, I couldn't turn my throttle much passed halfway. I didn't notice anything before my stop at the light, and wasn't pushing it particularly hard. It almost feels like something is stopping the actual throttle from turning passed a certain point, which is nowhere near full throttle.

Anyone ever have this issue, have an idea on what it could be, and/or have a resolution?

It's parked now, and hopefully will be fine at the end of the day, but just wanted to hear some insights.

Thanks

Of the top of my head, I can think of a few possibilities:
  • Frayed or kinked throttle cable
Foreign debris in the thottle slide chamber or throttle twist grip assembly
    Grip slipping on throttle tube
Has the bike been worked on or perhaps dropped/knocked over lately?

It has never been worked on, knocked over or dropped.

I just noticed that you have a 2013 Buddy and that you're in Chicago. I would consider having your dealer check it out, as it's a brand-new bike and Genuine has a great warranty. On something that new, I'd be reluctant to encourage you to do anything that might void your warranty.

If you do take that route, I'd be interested as to what the dealer identified as the cause.

So, as I suspected, after getting on the bike after work yesterday and riding for a minute or two, the throttle was back to normal. Not sure what the deal was, but all set now.

Thanks for the insights though - if it happens again, I'll head up to scooterworks, and let you know what they say.
