How does one lubricate cables?

I haven't done it yet on scooters, but there are two ways. Poor man's approach: remove the cable from its housing, smear it with grease, and stuff it back in. As I mentioned, I haven't yet done this on the Buddy's rear brake or throttle cables, but on some old Hondas and on past bicycles, the core could be pulled out without removing the housing from the bike. This obviously can't be done on a double-ball-ended cable, but on older designs with pinch bolts, it works, as long as the stranded end isn't too shredded.
Using a lube tool will probably work on most bikes without pulling the whole housing off the bike, as you really only need to get to one end to do the job.
