Prima 161cc big bore kit on sale!

Post by dalvarado »

I've been eyeing the Prima 58.5mm Cylinder Kit for the Buddy 125 at scooterworks, for a few weeks now:

http://www.scooterworks.com/prima-58-5m ... s-1027.php

It's been sitting in my cart as I wait for it to go on sale. Yesterday, I got my holiday bonus at work. That night, I noticed that the price dropped from $184 to $119.60 ! 35% off!

The Mayan Gods have spoken. I also popped for the big valve kit :). Thanks Scooterworks!

Thanks for posting this. Just ordered the big bore kit. Since the roads have been salted around here, it'll be a while before the Buddy is out again, which is good, still need to do an engine swap on my race car, and clean up the garage a bit before I can tackle this. With any luck, Scooterworks will have the big valve head on sale before spring, and I can do it all at once :D

It's a great deal!

Personally I run the stock head...I'm not convinced about the big valve head

I agree. I was skeptical about the benefit of the head, particularly without the exhaust. I went to the shop to talk to a bunch of gear heads about it and the consensus seemed to be "If you're going to do the exhaust, you can do the head if you want. If you're going to do the head, do the exhaust. But the BBK can be a stand-alone upgrade". The lady and I aren't fond of loud pipes, so, fantastically discounted BBK it is.

My main concern is temp. I opened the airbox, bigger carb and ncy pipe. I think the stock head acts like a rev limiter meaning that only a certain volume of air fuel can get through the valve. With the big valve I would be concerned about building up too much heat.. after all it still is an air cooled 4T.

Put an oil cooler on it

Really not necessary with just the cylinder kit, big head and pipe. If you're planning on thrashing the heck out of the scoot and doing a ton of extended WOT riding, then maybe. I'd go with a stock 150 oil cooler rather than the NCY. I was recently looking at that with a mechanic friend and it's got a lot of issues.

Yeah....adding an oil cooler isn't just plug and play.

I think people need to be realistic about what a big bore kit will do. You're not going to pick up much top end but you can add a ton of torque.

Plus an oil cooler does just that...cools the oil...the head is still air cooled

My scoot came with the Prima pipe when I bought it used, so I've already go that. I won't worry about getting the big valve head unless it goes on sale. I'm mainly looking for a bit more acceleration, don't need a top speed increase, and I don't want to dig too deeply into this bike, the Ruckus is the one I intend to get radical with.
