Engine Sputtering

Post by brandonwilliams929 »

Well, my scooter has been retired for the month of January since it's so cold here. Last Saturday turned out to be a good day so I decided to take the scooter for a ride. I had forgotten that I left it almost empty so I used some gas that was for the lawnmower that had just been sitting in the garage. The gas seemed good so I went ahead and poured it in. I cranked it up and drove around for about 20-30 mins with no problems whatsoever-- I was happy to be driving again! However, this morning it starting acting a little weird. It was cold Monday and Tuesday but only about 30 degrees this morning so I gave riding it a shot. On the way to work I noticed it idling strangely. It would kind of sputter but never really die out. Anytime I would stop at a stop sign, I could notice the light fading and then coming right back on (never dying out) and the engine acting the same (quick side note, I've already treated and fixed the vapor lock issue). When I got to my destination I stopped for a while and listened to the engine; it never ran smoothly and just kept sputtering but never dying out. I wish I could be more descriptive about the problem and give you all more clues as to what is actually happening but, either way, I would really appreciate anyone's help. I've read several threads and none of them seem to be exactly what I'm going through. I'm hoping to figure it out before leaving just to avoid it actually dying on the road and me having to push it for two miles.

Thanks,
Brandon

I've been 'burned' by old gas. Siphon most of it out (stick the siphon hose as far down in the tank as you can - get the water 'n' crap out), then go get some fresh stuff. Toss in an ounce or two of SeaFoam while you're at it, just to help get any funk outta the carb.

Hrm maybe I should try this, it sounds pretty much identical to my current problem.
