My son is scheduled to take the test and get (hopefully) his liscence in a couple of weeks. He has been riding a 50cc to school for the past 7 mos rain or shine. And he has been on a couple of big rides 100+ scoots around Atlanta.
He is stepping up to a 150 and we are going to hold off on a cage for a while.
Wish him luck

any advice from fellow riders who have taken the course is greatly appreciated!

Good luck, kiddo!
And remember, if you dump the bike during the BRC, the trainers think it is their failure, not yours, so have fun.

The only advice I can offer is to keep the rubber side down.

yep!
if his class is anything like mine was, they walk you through it so gradually you don't realize you can actually ride until the end when they have you doing all manner of things.
I'm sure he'll do just fine.

Best of luck to your son! And a wise choice to attend this course.
A couple words of advice. Have him supplement this training by purchasing and reading "Proficient Motorcycling" by David Hough. Outstanding guide with many insights, riding and safety tips.
I would also encourage him to practice the things he's exposed to in this course. Hopefully the techniques will become second nature to him and he won't have to think about them in an emergency situation. I've found that rural, low traffic roads are good for "live" practice.

Thanks for the helpful feedback!
Passed with a 94...
I was able to watch a few hours of the riding portion and was impressed with the instructors. Also impressed with the number of participants in class, and at this time of year..

Yea!! I loved my class and STILL to this day have some of the instructors "isms" running through my head when I ride.
