Lock tight blue

Post by issue31 »

 Should I be using Lock Tight blue on Variator nut, clutch spring nut and clutch bell nut? Getting ready for spring check up on a Buddy 125 and a 170 and was wondering? thank you!

I would recommend it. My clutch nut backed out a little bit a few months ago causing the clutch to bind against the bell which locked-up my rear wheel in an engaged state. When I stopped, the engine was working against a fixed resistance since the drive train couldn't disengage. I was lucky to not bend or break the crankshaft or other expensive and time-consuming bits.

I now use blue LockTight on all the the places you mentioned. YMMV.

I use blue almost anywhere on any bike that vibrates. Someplace like that nut I would probably actually use red. Blue is frequent repair and red is more permanent, but red does come off. Remember ALL loctite can be undone with a little heat. THAT is its true advantage.
But, yes, loctite is your friend :)

For that try Loctite RED!

Tocsik, how's the variator setup doing?

I also advise the use of Loctite 242 (or equivalent) for rattlely scooter bits. It's also a good idea to use Nylock nuts sometimes.
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

Seriously...I've lost count...

Seven mopeds ...that's still manageable...
