Modern Buddy

My home was broken into yesterday morning (while I was home - it was pretty scary) and my scooter was in the back yard. I scared them off, but my scooter was in the back yard and I'm afraid that they might come back for it.

Right now, the only thing I do to secure it is lock the steering. I've looked at disc brakes, and am considering getting one of those. Also, a chain lock would be good. But, what do I secure it to? I have a chain link fence with posts set in concrete, but they could lift it over the top and get it loose. I think my trees are too thick.

What do you guys suggest?

disk brake locks jut mean that a thief will have to lift the scooter onto its back wheel and take off with it. they would do that anyway since the steering is locked.

the best thing to do is chain it to something sturdy. and chain it around the frame so that it cant taken.

and buy a shotgun. never seen anyone stick around when they hear you pump it.

Does the area have lightening where the scooter is secured?

I thought I read there is some type of an alarm you can purchase that blares when the person approaches the scooter (or whatever you are trying to protect).

I think it is a good idea to be cautious.

It has two pieces: one is a battery operated transmitter that would attach to a nearby tree, fence, or pole and second a receiver that would be in your bedroom or living room, plugged in that would sound if anyone, including animals, got near your scooter. I have been using one for years on my above ground deck in case anyone climbs onto it while I am sleeping. (home invasion) I sleep better at night with it. I know its hard to believe that there would be home invasions in Philly, but yes, they do occur here! If anything happens, remember first notify 911!

Here's one thing I did:

I went to my local hardware store, and bought a concrete anchor and an eye-bolt, along with some chemical welding "glue". I used my hammer drill to drill the appropriate sized hole in the side of my porch, then tapped in the concrete anchor. I smeared the chemical welding compound on the threads of the eye-bolt and inside the anchor, then screwed it in nice and tight. There is no way anyone is going to be able to unscrew it...

Now, I have something solid to lock my Buddy to in my back yard. It didn't cost very much (about $18) for the parts, most of which are reuseable (the drill bit and chemical welding compound).

Sadly, if they do come back-there's not too much you can do to stop someone if they want the scooter. It's only 200 lbs. Bolt Cutters, hacksaw some time and maybe a friend with a truck...

How do you use chain\cable to secure a buddy to a fixed object attached? The rear rack can be removed easily and the rim holes are too small for anything to go through them.

I have a disk break with an alarm inside of it. If they lifted the bike to take it this thing would scream like mad and would definitely draw attention to the theif and your bike. They say that most theifs are lazy and that all you need is a little deterrent and they will move on to an easier target. The only downside is it is very sensitive, so it is sometimes set off by something else (like the wind). All that really means is you look out your window and make sure there is not a guy holding your bike trying to make off with it.

We string the thick cable lock around the front or back shock. I've seen other people string the cable all the way around the frame at the floorboards (like a bear hug) and around a solid object.

In the end your only real protection is insurance.....if the want it they are gonna find a way to take it.....I keep a $50 deductible on mine, they steal it I am only out $50....... MAKE SURE YOU HAVE COMPREHENSIVE ON YOUR POLICY
