Seat cover protects from sun, keeps pollen off

I park my scooter outside during the day at work. I wanted to protect the seat so the sun wouldn't break down the covering, and so that I wouldn't end up with pollen-butt. I got a pair of car window sun shades for about $7 from Wally World and sewed some velcro straps to hold it near the hinge. It probably isn't waterproof, but I have the luxury of not having to ride much in the rain.

It has worked well in the two weeks that I have been using it. It stays on well in the crazy Oklahoma winds. Since I only used one of the sun shades, I still have a second one if this one needs to be replaced.

Not a bad idea. My scooters get to sleep in a garage, but if I ride to work, one of them has to bake in the sun all day. Although I was mainly thinking about covering my seat to protect it from pigeon air raids.

That's a great idea. For waterproof capabilities, you can actually use, unmodified, a rain cover for one of those larger frame-style backpacks. I have a Deuter bag and the rain cover stretches perfectly over the Buddy seat.

Great idea.... I've actually blistered my butt from sitting on a hot-in-the-sun-all-day-seat, not a pleasant thing.
There are things purposely manufactured for this, but your idea looks like the perfect alternative.

Now, If I can only get the arse hole at work to stop putting cigarette butts on my seat!!!

I've seen some of the purposely manufactured products. The most recent one was at the scooter shop for $40. My product for $7 and some sewing looks homemade, but the $33 difference will help me cope with the less-professional look.

You're on your own with the arse hole. Making the cover out of leather or fire-resistant nomex would add to the cost and weight. I'll keep thinking about a solution to those factors.

I have had my cool ass cover since August 2010 and I am still happy with it for $25
But I do like Daniel's solution

I'm a major cheapskate when it comes to this. I use a trash bag with drawstrings. Open up the seat, pull a trashbag down over it, then put a hole in the trashbag where the latch is. Close the seat, then pull on the drawstrings, and wrap them around the cargo hook on the leg shield. When not in use, I just stuff it in the pet carrier. One bag tends to last a whole season.

Your trash bag is an easier idea than mine. My new office is on a work campus with all of the "pretty people", who care too much about keeping up with the Joneses. So I made the new cover more for looks than for any function that I wouldn't have with a trash bag. I caved to the peer pressure.

One benefit the trash bag has that the sun shade doesn't have is that it's waterproof. Good job on a functional, cheaper and waterproof cover.

Keeps my seat cool and It's extra padding.

Not bad for $30.
