POST East Coast Classic Rally - Introduced yourself to me...

Post by RoaringTodd »

Hi Everyone - this Saturday I will be at the East Coast Scooter Rally. Unfortunately, scooterless. This weekend is our family weekend together, so we all are coming down in the mini-van for the day.

I rode down and back yesterday from the Philadelphia area. It was a fun and beautiful ride! I did not have any problems with traffic on my Honda CH80. I guess I just wanted to have the rally experience even if I had to ride on a different day.

Anyways - I wanted to let everyone know that if you see a red hair guy with goatee... and he doesn't seem to say anything, or does not respond to you - He's not being a snob...

I'm actually Deaf and non-verbal. But please don't let that stop you from striking up a conversation with me. We will get the communication flowing. I'm a fun guy once we get over the initial communication barrier.

I'd love to meet some of you and place faces to screen names.

See you on Saturday. :D

Beautiful route. Farms, back roads, and saltwater marshes. Couldn't have asked for a better ride.

Bonus points if you wear that Genuine shirt I sent you :P.

If I was that direction I'd say hi. The bonus for you is you wouldn't have to hear me ramble for ages!

I may be easy to spot, I will be the short, plump, brunette chick with a weird leg and probably walking with a cane. Also, probably sleeping in my car, because somehow I've ended up with no hotel.

I don't have a scooter for this rally either, I didn't feel like it was worth dragging my LX50 up there. I will say, though, that this makes me wish very much that I had actually learned sign language a long time ago... I have always wanted to. But I can bring a notepad in case I run into you!! :)

SN: This is why I still think we should order "Hello my name is ____ on ModernBuddy" patches. Or come up with an easily recognizable logo/mascot, like Reddit did.

Yeah well just because your deaf doesn't mean you can't be a snob too!

Seriously...that looks like a bitchin heavy vintage rally...my kinda people! I'm bummed I can't make it...or meet both of you..but in the world of scootering and MB I figure we will cross paths sometime, I'm amazed at the number of MB members I have met in person at one place or another!

Have fun and give us a rally report! With pics! And bring that raffle smallie home!

One of these days I may go down to the Cocoa Beach rally. Or maybe we'll get lucky and Amerivespa will go east coast one year soon :)

Either that, or the next time somebody in my club does the cannonball, I'll volunteer as a chase car... that way I can at least meet some peeps in CA.

Anyhoo, see y'all there!

I don't know why I didn't think of posting a photo of myself. That might be helpful.

Here's me with a bird on my head in the Dominican Republic.

Leaving tomorrow morning and riding up from Baltimore. I'm pretty hard to miss, too, being 6'5", 240# and riding the blue/cream two-tone Stella.

A more recent pic of me than my avatar (pre-Stella ;)):

Pics helps us normal people out. We don't all have the advantage of clashing with the crowd that well.

Cheered

Thanks for the responses. Here's me and the fam. I'll be riding down on a white Vespa GTS decal attached onto a dark blue slate Toyota Sienna.

And Viney - I'm fluent in ASL. It's my native language. :D

Safe travels, and see you all Saturday -

Todd

It was a great day, perfect weather and company. The location was perfect. I completely enjoyed myself.

Met BootScootin'Firefighter, Lokky, Viney266, Stich, and Pollianra (I probably spelled that wrong). Looked for you, LunaP and Stits, but didn't see you.

Fell in love with Lambrettas. Re-considered my interest in the Stellas. Vowed to make the pilgrimage again next year.

Left early afternoon but not before enjoying a Pabst at the tiki swim up bar.

Thanks everyone for making me feel welcome. This was my first official scooter rally.

The shirt was carefully folded, packed, and brought to the Rally. Atlas, did not get a chance to wear it. It's the thought, tho... :P

Again, thanks for the shirt!

I kept an eye out for you, but didn't see you. Granted, I had some crap happen (namely, a utterly stupid parking ticket and a dead car battery).

Turns out, I am worse with faces than I though. Somebody waved to me from the lot while I was standing poolside (I think), but I was wearing my 8-year-old glasses that I swim in and I couldn't see their face well. Looked like they were on a Buddy with a brown roll bag, though.

There was also somebody who I kept passing in hallways and such and I kept thinking they looked familiar... but I'm the shy kid who doesn't say anything unless they're /sure/. Looking at this thread now, IT WAS TOTALLY YOU, STILTS.

nice to meet you too Todd! The weather was great, glad you could come out and enjoy it for a little bit. August 16-18 is a camping rally out in Harrisburg, the Three Mile Island scooter club. Great rally, maybe you can make it out for that one. Ride safe.

Yeah, nice getting to say hello Saturday, sorry I missed you ( and most folks ) for dinner.

Yes, there are some gorgeous Lammy's that show up for that rally, how could you not like them. And a large part of the Stella Army was some of the TMISC folks. Five of us were on Stellas. Rode them all the way down and back ,too. Look forward to seeing you at other events. I will be at the Meltdown.

HA! I was thinking the same thing, but, also being a bit on the shy side, did the same.

Hopefully we'll avoid angry guys in pickup trucks then ;)

You were right in front of me at the Wawa (on the cream/blue Stella) when that guy rolled up and started bitching and I didn't put two and two together until I was on the way home.

That was pretty crazy! He got in the middle of the pack and was tailgating the guy riding in front of him, what a punk. I tried to go around him and he drifted over to block me. All with his son in the car, wonderful example to set. I'm sure you heard of the other tough guy who actually got out of his car at a light and tried to start a fight with me. I don't get it, I'm really a nice guy and I hate violence... except for fight videos on youtube. Crazy NJ drivers.

Seriously, I almost got creamed by a guy in a Mustang who, while I was slowing down to turn right into a parking lot (signaling the right turn with my left hand), tried to get around me on the right. I barely avoided him.

He then proceeded to throw insults at me because he didn't even know a raised left hand indicates a right turn... I love the ECC but I am so glad it's the only time of the year I ride in Jersey.
