i'm sure someone here has purchased a scooter outside of their hometown from a private party. so here's the question: how do you go about making payment and making sure you get the title and scooter?

also, how much should mileage play in a negotiation? this is an 08 buddy 125 with under 5400k on it, in good shape, clean title, with service records through a dealer. new battery, just had an oil change. never been down, original owner.

the seller started at $1950, reduced it to $1750 after 10 days. kelly blue book shows a dealer price at $1650. what do you think would be a fair price to offer for the scooter? i may have to have it shipped to me, so that needs to be factored in as well.

I trusted the seller, Some say i am too trusting " my scooter was from FL and I am in IL so driving down would of been a pain .. Also I got a really good deal so even if something was messed up with the title I would of been out just a few $

I'm to cautious to ever buy a motorized vehicle long distance. It's just too risky for me. I want to ride or drive whatever I buy before I buy it. I just don't have the money to take that kind of chance. I know there are good, accurately described vehicles out there, being sold by honest people, but for every one I hear about, I hear 2 or 3 horror stories. Not to scare you off. I look air this way, if its too far for me to spend money to travel to look at it first hand for the price it is offered, then it's too far to risk me spending my money to buy site unseen.
That is just my philosophy, I may loose some good deals, but, I just can't do it any other way.

I am one of those people who wants to see the vehicle before finalizing the purchase and prefers that documents and payment all change hands at one time. If I wanted a vehicle bad enough I'd travel to where it was and plan on bringing it back with me. Now, that's just me. The other choice is to trust the seller (even though you don't have much basis to do that ) or use a broker to handle documents and funds.

I might drive a 175 miles to purchase a scooter and haul it home in my minivan, but probably not 500 miles.

If you want the scooter bad enough..........

If you have someone you know that you can reasonably trust that is nearer to where this scooter is, you might ask them, and even pay them to check out this scooter for you.

Dooglas mention of a "broker" may be a good idea.
