Hi All,

I searched the forum, but couldn't find an answer.

My wife noticed this yesterday when I was riding it home from the dealer. The headlight was bouncing up and down. It wasn't the physical housing, but the light itself. Is this normal? Can it be fixed easily? Is it an issue at all?

does it move while standing still, or CAN you move it? If it's loose there is a nut on the bottom, but I've yet to see that.

If not, I'd say it's just the small cone of light from a single headlight bouncing up and down with your normal travel.

I should not bounce. It sounds like the retaining ring inside the headset is broken. This will cause the headlight to bounce as you've described - assuming you mean that the whole headlight is bouncing and not just the bulb (which also shouldn't bounce).

If this is the problem, it's an easy fix, but I seem to remember the retaining ring is integral to the headlight housing and is thus relatively expensive...

The whole headlight moves up and down. It seems a little loose inside the housing. I took off the chrome ring and looked inside, but I don't know what I'm looking for. I didn't want to take the headlight out at this point.

So, What should I do and what should I look for? I'm somewhat handy, so I think I can take care of this myself instead of going back to the dealer...let's hope! LOL!

You can see that the headlight is held in place by a pin on each side, left and right. If the screw at the bottom (part #8) is not missing, then the ring that it screws into is likely broken. This will allow the light to bounce up and down along the axis of the side pins. Fixing this requires a new headlight assembly.

Also, the molded plastic tabs on either side of the headlight can break. If that is the case, you can do a temporary fix: viewtopic.php?t=19514&highlight=headlight+fix

Thanks! If I'm understanding this, to get the headlight assembly out, I take off the chrome outer ring, then the screw underneath the cowl, and the light should come out, right?

Since the light is moving on it's horizontal axis, I'm guessing the problem is with the screw on the bottom, not one of the pegs on either side. I'lll check it when I get home from work.

OK, I took the headlight out, and this was the problem. The left one broke off. When I get time, I'll see if I can fix it.
