Lock fell out of Soft Italia Topcase!

Post by DudeDog »

I put my key in the lock and turn. Then the lock comes right out of the case and I'm left with a lock and a topcase with a hole in it.

See the two attached pics!

Now what? I can't get the topcase open to fix the lock.

Thanks in advance for all ideas.

put key in it slide the lock back in the hole open case and re attach the latch .. it looks like the latch came off " usually will have lock tight on the threads or a lock washer" Use both when re installing.

I'll try that when I get home. I thought the lock attached to a latch inside the topcase.

Too easy if that's the fix.

Thanks!

That didn't work. The latch did come off - and that's why that didn't work.

The key turns both directions, then stops, but no joy. Looks like I will have to pry it open.

could try and pull the hinge pin out " tap it through so you could put it back " not have to buy another one

Crises averted!

I found a plastic tab underneath the lock and under the handle. It looked like it was a plastic latch - but it wasn't. It eventually broke off and exposed a hole under the lock. After about 20 minutes fiddling around with a screwdriver not knowing what I was doing I eventually got lucky and popped the latch.

Now the whole lock mechanism, latches, nut, washer, and cover are all in pieces and I'm pretty confident I can figure out how to put it all back together. I'll document the whole thing with pics because I'm sure this is going to happen to someone else some day.
