Just cleaned my Stella...

Post by gar1013 »

I had ordered some of the pre-treated sponges from Protect All's website for a buck each, with free shipping for 2 of them. Tonight I finally got around to giving the bike a good cleaning.

I have to say that I'm impressed with the results.

You dab some on, spread it about with a towel, and then wipe dry with another. You can pretty much clean the bike top to bottom - although I would avoid going near the tires and brakes because the product is kind of slick.

The only area where it could have done a bit better was the seat.

Still, the results looked really good and I didn't have to use a drop of water.

HD used to sell a similar product as did Honda, although I think the honda product got banned in CA.

At any rate, at least I've solved the issue of how to keep my Stella clean in a minimal amount of time whilst living at an apartment complex that doesn't allow you to wash vehicles.

There used to be several "Dry wash" kits around, but I haven't seen any for a while.... I'm kind of the "Guinea pig" for trying different cleaners and protectants.. I work in Auto Parts, so I see a lot of different products and have tried most.... Believe me there are about a million on the market, LOL... I used Areospace stuff that has UV paint sunblock in it, and all kinds of others. You just need one that will lift and suspend the contaminants off the paint.
Glad you found something that works good for you...

Using the two towel approach, it's pretty interesting how much grime there was on the bike that you couldn't even see.

The first towel (to spread the product around) got very grimey, very fast. Interestingly enough, the second towel to dry things off also started to look a bit minging as things progressed.

I might give their quick wash product a try -- I've heard of people just using the surface treatment, and not even bothering with a wash. Apparently the quick wash is a no-rinse type of product.

I let the rain clean mine the other day when I got stuck in a down pour. Wiped it off with a dry towel and she was clean :)

Lol. Yeah, cleaner you keep them the easier they are to clean. I usually use a no wax detailed about every other time I ride mine. I'll admit I'm a little obsessive about keeping my 2 wheelers clean.
