Hello all,
I am new here and looking at a Craigslist Genuine Buddy 125. The guy is near Chicago and is asking $900 for a 2006 125cc Buddy. It has ~4000 miles on it. The only thing wrong with it (according to the CL post) is that
"There is a strap or something caught in the release for the storage area under the seat, meaning the seat does not open."
Obviously, he ran it out of gas and cannot fill it up because he can't open the seat. It's been sitting this way since 2010. So my question is, should I buy this? I'm pretty mechanically inclined so I'm thinking I could get the seat open. Has anyone every experienced this? Is my best bet to break the hinge? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Brian
Can't open storage on possible purchase.

I would be weary of buying anything sight unseen from Craigslist.
However, if it were me, and I was really interested, and wanted to pursue it anyhow, I'd contact the individual, and ask him to take it to a local Genuine dealer, have them check it out, then contact the dealer directly asking them for something in writing (email would be fine) indicating their findings, referencing the VIN on the scooter in their reply. If you decided, based on that, that you want the scooter, you could reimburse the guy for the fee for the evaluation. If not, well, they can determine at that point if they want to pay the $$ to get it in running order and sell it for more.
Others might chime in with differing opinions, but that's my 2 cents.
Good luck!

I think this scoot is listed in the For Sale forum: viewtopic.php?t=25379
If the seller (20posts or so) contacts Eric, perhaps he'll send seat-opening advice.
