Recently got a Buddy 50cc and have no complaints. Love the bike, love being able to go and park anywhere. Bike has good acceleration off the line and I have no issues getting up to speed. The one issue I do have is losing speed on inclines. Now, I’m a pretty good-sized guy (6’2”, 230lbs) and from what I’ve been reading here, it seems I want to upgrade by contra spring. After reading here and searching the web, I’m thinking of going with the Malossi green spring. As I haven’t disassembled the transmission as yet, I don’t know what the roller weights are and I know there is a relationship between the contra spring and rollers. As I mentioned acceleration is good, so I’m guessing the rollers are OK for my size relative to the bike.
I’d love to hear any feedback. The Genuine/Buddy community is certainly a welcoming one and I’ve gotten a lot of good info off this discussion site already!

Even if you upgrade the contra it will still shift around 25mph. Mine would "fall off the pipe" up a steep hill too, im 250lbs. I would have to slow down and let the variator shift down or let drag up the hill. Lighter roller weights and stiffer contra springs have the same effect. A stiffer contra becomes more necessary on highly modified bikes when extra pressure is needed to prevent belt slip. That said I'd recommend you buy 5 or 5.5 gram weights. You can mix 3 5s and 3 stock 7s to arrive at six. Or go straight to all 5. It will have a lot more power. An ncy torque driver will eliminate the shift. A Leo Vince sp3 is a great street pipe. I've ridden the prima and its too peaky for my taste. For my scoot I ended up with 4.8g rollers, yellow clitch springs, prima pipe, 95 main jet, 6 1/4" holes in the airbox. It turns high rpms at cruise so generally run the commute at 40mph. Mileage is mid 80s mpg. Wish I'd got a more street friendly pipe. Because it can get trapped by the variator stuck in overange and not have the torque to get back on the pipe and power up a hill. That said the prima does make good power. No problem hitting 50 mph indicated in the flat.
