Hello!

Post by DaveCarlson »

I'm new to scooters but not new to bikes. I've been on something with 2 wheels and a motor for 45+ years. My last bike was '01 Harley Wide Glide.
I just picked up an '06 Blur 150 today. I just wanted to say hello and hope to learn from the masters.
Thanks, Dave

Hi
The handle on the left side of the handlebars is not a clutch.

You joke, but I recently hopped on my Vespa after weeks on the Stella only and realized I was slamming the rear brakes! NOT A CLUTCH.

I wasn't joking. I've had a couple panicky moments grabbing the "clutch". That was the hardest thing for me to get used to.

when I go between a twisty scooter and motorcycle I have to consciously remember which one has the brake and which one has the clutch; it gets hilarious when I'm trying to depress a brake pedal while riding a twisty scooter...LOL!

Mmm. Not exactly the same, but I embarrassed myself earlier; I used my mom's minivan to pick up furniture earlier today. When I got in the car I set down her keys and went to push the start button.

Her car does not have a start button. My roommate made fun of me. A lot.

What?? You mean that the car starter button is not on the floor any more?

How many of us around here truly remember that?

My Mom's new Volvo has the proximity key and starter button, she can't get used to it. At least she's not stomping the floor.
Every time I get into any car, I feel for a clutch pedal with my left foot.
And worst yet.....When I was first riding my Honda Met, I grabbed a handful of the right side brake handle, because bicycles that's the rear, in a bit of a 'learners panic' on gravel, tore hell out of the scoot's and my right sides....

OK I don't go back that far...but I do remember when the high beam switches were always on the floor.

To the OP...welcome to MB..the Blur 150...although not overly popular is a kick butt scooter!

We want photos and don't forget to give us that first "real" ride report!

Every time I go to my car I have to remind myself that there's no crank on the front to start it with. ;)

Yeah, hi beam switch was on the floor in my 36 Ford Coupe and the windshield had a crank in the middle of the dash top so you could get
air conditioning by cranking the windshield out. Had a pal who had an A model Ford that had a hole in the grill so that you could insert the crank handle to start it, I guess in case the battery died. Ah, those were the good old days!!!! NOT!!!!

My '73 VW Thing has a cutout in the rear bumper that was designed to work with a crank starter. Never seen anyone use one, though. That and a gasoline-powered cabin heater. Pinnacle of German engineering.

And my wife's dear, departed Renault LeCar had a foot squeeze bulb for the windshield washer by the driver's left foot. She'd always "kick the pisser".

As the Magliozzi brothers would say, once you own a French car, nothing worse in life can happen to you. I've owned three Renaults (LeCar, Fuego, Alliance) - what does that say?

The furthest back I remember is air starters and air powered wipers.
