This was, by far, the most diverse group ride in which I've been involved. Mixed in regards to the rides, scoots (125's and up), MCs (sports to cruisers), a trike and a Can-Am. Mixed in regards to ages, from 18 to 65. And mixed genders and races.
23 bikes in all and we rode from NW Indiana to Nashville, IN (Brown County State Park). We started the trip on Friday AM and returned late afternoon Sunday. About 220 miles each way as we avoided interstates, at least on the way down.
I pretty much was just a follower and enjoyed the preparation of others, my wife being one of those.
They did a very nice job of accommodating this mixed group and making it enjoyable for all.
Some of the things that worked really well. We tended to ride down most of the way in smaller groups, meeting at predetermined rendezvous points. This allowed all to ride at a pace that they preferred while allowing others to do some exploring of side roads, towns, etc. We took our time and made it an 8.5 hour trip. We also split up and rode with different people. Once in Brown County, we rode most of the state park in a large group taking over a day to get through the very scenic park. Some of the people in the group were very familiar with the area and suggested excellent restaurants and other entertainments.
On the way back, we all once again kind of split up into small groups but went our own way.
A couple of side notes. If you have a chance to ride in Brown County, IN, do so. Very pretty, scenic place with much to do. Very nice long weekend location.
Also, many of us had helmet communication systems which, in my opinion, really added to the ride. Not all were compatible, but enough had Sena systems to keep it interesting.
Any other tips for mixed group riding?
Rob

Some friends and I did a couple days of bicycling in that area back in the Neolithic Era, and I agree.Rob wrote:A couple of side notes. If you have a chance to ride in Brown County, IN, do so. Very pretty, scenic place with much to do. Very nice long weekend location.

I noticed Beanblossom ... how could that name not attract your attention, but we didn't head that way. Had I known, scooter racing would have been a must see. We're planning on another group ride to the same area next year, so this will be high on the TTD list.ohiotj wrote:You guys were close to the drag strip where there is scooter racingBrown County Dragway is just a short trip away from Nashville in Beanblossom.
Thanks for the tip.

It was and is. I just noticed that you're in W. Michigan. If you're interested, you're more than welcome to join the group next year. From what I hear, we're already expecting a bigger group.chloefpuff wrote:That sounds like a fabulous weekend. And beautiful country.
