Tourist Traps to See/Avoid

Post by Rob »

From MSN.

Tourist Traps

I've been to 4 of these 10 while traveling on 4 wheels.

My wife had to encourage(MAKE) me to do the Alcatraz trip. Once again she was right .... great tour.

I stopped at the Mystery Spot near St Ignace in the UP, in part because road construction had traffic backed up (alternating one-way on US-2, the only road west from Mackinac :sigh:). It's just a bunch of obvious visual illusions, but a mildly amusing break from riding.

Missed em all except I did hike all over the area around Niagra Falls on both sides of the border. Was primarily interested in that location in repect to the French and Indian War, the American Revolution and the War of 1812.

The best National Park I've seen was Bryce Canyon.

I'd love to plan a road trip that would take in those kind of attractions while avoiding all the usual crap tourists flock to.

I got a laugh from these folks' review of the Central Park carriage rides. "Smell of manure" - well, last time I checked, horses don't crap roses or fart Chanel No. 5. Having ridden the subways there for over 20 years, I can assure you that there are a lot of humans that smell worse.
