Battery Terminal Bolts?

I lost the nuts to my battery terminal bolts. I was unhooking the battery to test on another scoot and did not realize the bolts screw onto a nut, and not into the battery terminals. When I moved the battery, the nuts went flying into the yard.
My kids and I spent some time searching for them, to no avail. I am sure a squirrel made away with them when I wasn't looking.
Question -
What kind of metal should I use as replacement nuts? I woulnd't want to cause a short or excessive corrision on the battery. Can I just pick the bolts up at the local Home Depot?
Thanks - RT

The bolts are cadmium plated.
If you have any type of mcy shop or battery store that sells bike batterys they generally will give you old ones from returned dead battery's.
Folks loose them all the time...you aren't the first.

Dang it!
Found some, but they don't fit in the slots on the battery. My scooter is down because of a itsy bitsy part. Talk about frustrating.

Thanks Charlie! The shipping was $6.95. I have a lead on a dedicated battery store nearby. If that doesn't work out, I'm going to have to suck it up and pay the shipping cost.
It's cheaper than buying a new battery for the screws!

Go by your local Batteries Plus store.

You can use anything that will fit, doesn't have to be anything special...I've used generic nuts and bolts in batteries for years... they may corrode if the battery leaks, but so will the others....

I'd walk a mile for a Camel, but I'd never trade my nuts for a cup of coffee.
