Modern Buddy

Hey all,

Something odd happened this morning when I stopped to pump some gas into my Buddy 150. I removed the gas cap, pumped gas, then when I tried to reattach the cap it was extremely loose. Normally when you set the cap on and twist its a tight fit but now it just sits on there. I'm assuming I lost a gasket, even though I looked everywhere on the floor and on the end of the gas pump nozzle I couldn't find anything. Searched around for a gas cap replacement but haven't come up with anything yet, any suggestions?

Also if I ride with the cap twisted on but loose like this, can anyone foresee any issues coming up while I source a replacement?

You shouldn't have issues, but don't fill the tank up too much — gas may slosh out.

Can you post pics of the cap and the filler neck of the tank? It should still screw in and stay in place. I would think.

Yeah, I didn't understand that either...it should still tighten down without a gasket, it just might leak...You didn't have someone filling up at the same time and grab the wrong gas cap did you????? Just a stupid thought on my part....

There should be a gasket sort-of-clinging to the underside of the cap, so if you don't see one, that'd explain it. It's just a piece of rubbery plastic, so in theory you can get a replacement cheap at a good hardware store, but finding one with the right diameters (to stay in place) and thickness (to seal without too much effort) can be tricky.

Since you didn't see anything in the immediate area, shine a flashlight down in the tank and see of the black rubber gasket fell down in there.

Be careful; don't drop your flashlight in the tank!

Mine tightens with out the gasket, I'm sure it would leak....but the lid is Tight, not loose.....

Also: Do no use a lit match instead of a flashlight.
