Buddy 50 - oil leak?

Post by Scooter49 »

I haven't been able to ride the Buddy 50 in a week. I went out to move it just now, to take it out for a spin. There are two small, blue drops of oil on the pavement underneath. Normal? Oil leak?

What part of the bike were the drops under?

Two drops in a weeks time, normal behavior, if you have a quarter sized spot in 24hrs. then you have a problem.

always start with the simple, it may end up costing you little to nothing

Brand new, right? Like brand brand just out the crate new.
No worries.....they are all oily fresh out of the box.....some will migrate off with engine heat thinning the sprayed on stuff and it drips off.
A few wipedowns of the lower bits should resolve it.

Yeah, my brand new Buddy 50 was dripping a little bit of oil when I brought her home the first time, right by where the kickstand is attached - it had stopped by the next time I went to ride her, and I double-checked with the dealer and he said it was nothing to worry about unless it kept happening steadily.

You should not have any oil leaking. I had a similar issue when I purchased my new 2012 Buddy 50 after a few weeks. It was leaking from the oil pump. It's on top of the engine, open the pet carrier and take a look. They had a o ring issue, in which they need to replace the o ring with a replacement. My dealer said it was common. Warranty covered for sure. So 2500 mi later dry as can be.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I will be attending a customer appreciation ride this weekend, so I will ask the dealer if I should bring it in later in the week.
