Modern Buddy

Hi all. I've had my buddy 50 lil italia for about year, and noticed last week that i was bogging down on my home from work after a big uphill climb. I took the carb off, drained the bowl, cleaned everything with Berryman's spray and then compressed air throughout the carb body and jets.

The Berryman's spray can directions also suggest to start the bike up without the airbox on, get the engine running strong, and spray directly into the carb in 2-3 second increments until it's running clean. So I went to do that and the bike won't start at all, after a few tries gas comes trickling outta the carb and directly into where the aribox would be.

I'm having my neighbor, who's a wickedly good mechanic, come over to check it out tonight. But any suggestions? I figured it was a stuck float and the bowl was overflowing, so i took the carb off, took it apart and reassembled again, reinstalled and same results.

Well, neighbor though all looked good w/ the carb. It was only leaking because we were trying and trying to start it without success and the fuel pump just kept brigning in gas and overwhelming the carb.

Next thing he checked was the spark plug. Dirty. Cleaned it up, still nothing. So we've got spark, and we've got gas, but not starting. Placed his thumb where the spark plug would hook up and determined we had little or no compression, but that was the end of his expertise as he has no experience with this specific engine.

Anything I can try to improve compression before I have to bring this thing into the shop?

Is it possible you ran out of 2 stroke oil? It sounds like you may have ring, piston, or cylinder damage.

Could be the auto petcock. To check pull the gas line from the carb and drain into a container. Gas should only run for afew seconds, of it doesn't stop running the petcock is bad and causing everything to flood.

Little or no compression? Flooding?

Maybe you washed out the rings with all the fuel. Try squirting a small amount of oil in the cylinder then check for increased compression.
