Cleaning a Buddy - What Do You Use?

Post by vdeschamps »

I used to clean my motorcycle top to bottom with lemon pledge and a microfiber towel.

What do you use to clean your buddy? Plastics, seat, wheels, etc.

Thanks.

when I do clean my scooter (which isn't very often), I use Windex on the plastics and the Prima pipe and SimpleGreen on the wheels.

I recently treated my car with Nu Finish and found that it works wonders on the windows; better than RainX. So, I also hit the scooter with Nu Finish and loved the results. Even did my helmet and visor.

You guys are good....I admit that I'm lazy...I usually just wipe the whole scooter down with those blue paper shop towels after it rains.

I'll have to remember the nufinish tip. :)

I have some car washing soap that I use (can't remember the name, but I remember it comes in a purple bottle!) to wash the entire scooter top to bottom, then I use Windex on the chrome-y bits to make them shine. I also have some Turtle Wax Wax 'n Dry spray that really makes my Buddy sparkle. :)

Tried a couple, and this one is our favorite. Cleans and polishes the plastics, leather/vinyl, mirrors, helmet with visor, etc.

Best to use the ammonia-free formulation of Windex rather than the original formula on Plexiglass and the like as ammonia can craze some plastics.

Thank you all for the responses. I cleaned my Buddy for the first time since I got it (i.e. a week ago!) and used the Lemon Pledge. It did a decent job especially on the plastic parts.

I'm a big fan of Plexus... but it's a bit on the expensive side, but it does a great job of cleaning and shining up my windshield and everything else.

I also like and use Plexus on windscreens and helmet visors. I have found S100 to be a good product for giving the entire bike a quick "bath". I notice my dealer buys S100 in 5 gallon buckets for in-house use.

I used to use S100 on my motorcycle until I ran out and was too lazy to order it online while I can get Lemon Pledge at the grocery store :-)

I won a Pig Spit cleanup/detail kit at a rally. I'll be trying it out soon; I'll try to do a good cleanup before bagging it up for the winter.

Meguiar's Soap followed by a plastic polish with a UV protectant.

Depending on where you live and where you park and store your scoot, the UV protectant can be a big help. I also use a UV blocking product on exposed rubber pieces, especially on the Stella.

I take mine to one of 2 car washes that I like (good soap & wax); I empty the milk crate and under seat compartment before starting the scooter and make sure my saddlebags are closed before starting the motorcycle; I do the majority of the cleaning on low pressure and 'spin' the back wheel on the scooter with high pressure to clean the areas that I can't reach; I stand back and use the wax on high pressure and create a mist or 'rain shower' and spray a wide pattern so that virtually every surface gets covered...I do this several times as I walk around the scooter or motorcycle; I crouch down and try to get the undercarriage as much as possible using high pressure; I use several microfiber towels to dry the scooter or motorcycle; I allow extra time for the engine to warm up since the cold water takes vitrtually all the heat out of the engine/tranny cases; for intermittent cleaning of mirrors & windshield (bird poop/bugs/rain drop residue) I use windex or other glass cleaner...same with my helmet visors
