MotorcycleUSA.com $2000 Scooter Comparo (+ Buddy 50)

Post by jrsjr »

MotorcycleUSA.com did a comparo article about $2000 scooters; Honda Metropolitan, Piaggio Typhoon 50, Aprilia Motard SR50, and the Kymco Agility 125. I guess it goes without saying that the Agility has a few CCs on the other bikes so it wins the top speed contest, but MotorcycleUSA gave the nod to the Piaggio for it's superior ride. However, at the end they also spend almost a whole page covering the Buddy 50, which they really liked and pointed out is a peppy 2T scooter, if a little small. I like the opening of the article where they explain why they decided to cover $2000 scooters. It's interesting, read it here and see what you think.

"Although it was unsaid, I'm sure we'd all imagine the ultimate lightweight scooter would combine the Piaggio chassis and style with the KYMCO's killer motor..."

Guess I was lucky to find a deal on exactly what they are talking about. My Sportcity 125 is the same chassis with more power. :) Not to mention it looks better, and I got it new (although an older model year) for less than the price of a new 50cc. There are still quite a few of them out there.

I really liked that article. I'm going to use it as a defacto when people start asking me about "what scoot should I get?!" That and the justgottascoot board are more unbiased than me :P.

It has the exact same wheels and tires as the Typhoon and SR Motard 50. Only difference is mine are silver and not black.

Too bad the Lance Cali Classic 125 and Tomos Nitro 150 weren't included. Both scooters made by SYM and both with msrp's under 2k.

Well, on Page 5 under the Buddy review, they covered the Lance PCH125, giving it pretty good marks and noting that Lance scooters are, "noticeably higher in quality than the no-name Chinese stuff."

really? i read somewhere on a spec sheet it has 14's? they look kinda big in photos. pretty sure the Typhoon has 12's, not sure about the other

i'll do some looking up. anyway no big deal i was just ribbing you a little. i like that scooter, the Sportcity. as said i would like a 250 sitting around one day. get one used, probably. i like they're small 250's. nice, narrow bike

i have to defend my little A125 at every chance, though :ninja:

i like that PCH 125 and 150. first choice for me if buying an Agility 125 replacement or looking for an inexpensive scooter with more dynamic commuting abilities then a typical 50cc

What woes? Alliance has been the nationwide supplier for SYM (and their Lance side for the Lance models) for several years now.

The problems I hear are the same ones I hear from Buddy owners with crappy dealers, or people who believe that Alliance should always deal with them directly instead of through a dealer.

Typhoon 50 has 14's and the 125 has 12's. No idea why they would do such a thing.
