NSR: ModernBuddy Meetup?

Post by skully93 »

Thanks to this site, I've made a ton of new friends, etc.

I've also found out that CO has a lot of MB members. We can't all get together regularly, but it's out there.

I'm positive this has been proposed, but has anyone thought about doing an occasional rally/meetup someplace? or maybe regionally?

Perhaps Genuine's new board would show a little love (our local dealers probably would...).

Thoughts, opinions, admonishments?

A Buddy/Genuine-only meetup? Like a national rally sort of thing?

Genuine was doing this in various regions before Philip McCaleb stepped down. They were a lot of fun. I don't think that's going to be coming back. :(

There was, however, a lot of griping about Genuine-only rides. It wasn't like a club putting them together; Genuine was sponsoring and paying for the day as a way to thank customers. I'm not sure how individuals/groups sponsoring local Genuine-only rides would go over.

Oddly, Genuines are now the most common non-Piaggio scoots at Amerivespa. That's kind of become the de facto national rally for everyone, regardless of what they ride. The MB members there tend to gravitate to each other. :)

there's a bunch of us that have Stellas and Buddies. We get together from time to time. We even have our own clubhouse with a bell tower.

I don't ride a Genuine yet, but that's because the Buddy doesn't fit me, and I haven't found what I'm looking for in a Stella. (2t in Avocado if anyone has one)

I wouldn't say Genuine only, just ModernBuddy folks (and their friends, family, acquaintances...). I learned early on it's definitely not about what you ride. Maybe I'm just more open since I have owned scoots from 5 different makers and loved them all.

I do hope to make Amerivespa sometime soon. It probably wont' be 2014, but 2015 is a strong possibility.

The 2015 location is a big mystery! I don't even know and haven't heard murmurs.

I feel pretty lucky to have met so many MBers at various rallies and events. Buncha kooks! ;)

Having owned a B125 for a year and falling in love with the site, I see no problem coming to a MB meetup on my BV and would. Given the inclusive nature of MB I don't think there would be much (if any) objections. Hey, put it out there and see what happens.

If we can round up enough local loonies from this spring's planned AZ ride, I'd bet they'd be game to ride up for a CO event. Otherwise, I need to get a trailer and build a better tie-down setup for my truck.
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

Seriously...I've lost count...

Seven mopeds ...that's still manageable...

I would suggest doing it in the style of Sleep Away Camp. Tampa Two Stroke puts it on and they are a hardcore vintage club.

This is a heavy metal rally...lots of vintage, however EVERYONE is welcome to their rally...and I don't mean tolerated....they are welcome! These guys gave an award to a Schwinn once for best rally theme scooter or something like that. There have been sports bikes, Burgmans, enduros...whatever...everyone has a good time!

So my suggestion would be to make it a Genuine centric gathering but whoever shows up is welcome!
