So the damage estimate came in, and apparently the labor cost is very high on the wrecked bike. So the insurance wants to total it. Sad since I didn't even have it a year, but....what can ya do?

I basically get out what I put in.
I can shop for a different bike that might be easier to work on
The bad:
I actually liked it! (I get attached to things even if they are quirky)
there are few maxi scoots that don't make me cringe that also happen to not be stupidly expensive.

OK, that was bad. Sorry to hear that your scooter is a loss. Is the damage cosmetic, or is there frame damage? As others have said, the buyback on the bike might be cheap and if you know local scooterists who are handy with tools, it may be viable to restore.
This is coming from a guy with low standards when it comes to assessing viability of a wrecked vehicle, but it's worked out several times in the past if I did the wrenching myself.
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

I thought about doing the salvage route, because they didn't want much for it. However the steering is off, which could just be an adjustment, or it could be a true bent frame. I did go down at 40+ mph, so...
I'm not so attached that I won't just take the $$ and walk away.
Sometimes things in life happen that just plain put you behind or in a bad situation. You went down at a good speed and are lucky to be uninjured in any permanent way. Sure it sucks but if the insurance company is really offering about what you have in the bike I would take the money and run. For me personally I don’t think messing with the whole salvage thing is worth the risk of having a scooter that will keep giving you problems until you are forced to junk it.
