Bellville is probably 100 miles from the coast, but the dirt roads were surprisingly sandy. I have ridden motorcycles on sand a lot in my younger days, but it felt very different on a scooter, with the little 10 inch wheels. It gave me new respect for those guys that rode Vespas in the Dakar Rally, across the world's largest sand pile.
You really have to keep the power on to keep from sinking into the ruts. Steering is best accomplished with body weight distribution, kind of like kayaking or sledding.
We did fine, with no spills and enjoyed the scenery.
