My friend is saying that her buddy 125 started to slow down when at full throttle. She came to a stop on the side of the road, after a few minutes the throttle response was back.
It has only happened twice so far after a 3-5 mile straight away going full speed. Her gas tank was NOT topped off (so not vapor lock...i assume), But it was less than quarter of tank.
She took it to ScooterWest on Pacific Highway, San Diego, and they couldn't replicate the issue.
My Buddy 125 was starting to break-up at top speed and slowly worked its way down to the point were it would only idle. Turned out the stator was going bad. Replaced it and all is back to normal. The other thing I can think of is something in the transmission? Pull the cover off (its easy) and give it a once over. Light belt dust is normal. Chunks of rubber, oil puddles or metal filings are not. Whats the milage? Could be a fuel filter needs to be changed. Put it on the centerstand and see if the front wheel spins free, really doubt its a sticking caliper. Also spin the back wheel with the bike off, any crazy crunching noises? Let us know what your solution is when you find it.
I had a similar issue, and it turned out to be the fuel petcock. I got to top speed, then it died. It eventually restarted, died again, and kept up that pattern.
While troubleshooting, I also replaced the spark plug and fuel filter.
I got a lot of suggestions to replace the stator. That didn't end up being my issue, but apparently a lot of people had similar issues which were caused by a bad stator.

I also suspected the fuel petcock, and then I messed up the float with my clumsy booger pickers. The petcocks are cheap, I will order on just in case. My Buddy 125 has 35,000 miles. I just replaced it with a CityCom 300. The Buddy is going away for good, I just want to make sure its all good before seeing it off to a new home.
koyla87, does your friend ride her Buddy regularly, or has it sat for a while over the winter? Sure you may have a bad stator, but if the scoot has sat, it might just be some now-bad gas clogging the main jet. Or another member, jmusik, had similar problems and found it to be a bad connection on the CDI.
