Tax Credit?

Post by Tomato Bisque »

So I'm filling out my tax return and it says there may be a credit for fuel efficient vehicles purchased in the last year. It mentions hybrids but apparently scooters that use less gas don't qualify? Just ranting I guess...

I guess they assume most people who buy a scooter aren't buying it to replace a car.

I got a partial sales tax credit for buying my scooter back in 2009 at the depths of the Great Recession. It was for the purchase of "a new vehicle", which my Buddy was. Not that the sales tax on a $2000 scooter was a huge amount, but still....

The only tax credit I've ever been able to get for any scooter has been for the cost of registering it, and even then it wasn't applicable in all states.

No CA rebates or tax credit for a gas-powered scooter. The incentive is for (hopefully) replacing vehicles with something more fuel efficient.

At this point, all rebates and federal tax incentives are for plug-in vehicles only, so either full electrics or plug-in hybrids.

The Zero Electric motorcycles and Vectrix electric scooters qualify for a rebate.

If you ride your scooter as a primary form of transportation some insurance companies can give you a low mileage discount on your car insurance. Farmers did that for my wife when she rode her scooter to work everyday.
Whatever it is, it's better in the wind.

My car was already at the lowest-mileage rate when I started scooting ... instead of biking.
