transporting boxes

Post by anthony »

Hello all. I will be moving soon, and while I will be using a U-haul truck when the day comes, in the meantime I need to acquire boxes for packing things up. Many are offered up for free on Craigslist, but as I do not have a car, I don't have a convenient way of getting them. So, does anyone have a good method for transporting boxes on their scooter? Obviously they'd need to be broken down, but outside of just bungee-ing the crap out of them to my rear rack, I can't think of a non-cumbersome, workable way to do it. Is that my only option or can anyone think of any other way?

I've never had a car, either.

Seriously, the best way is to convince someone who does have a car to transport them for you. Buy them lunch or a drink or something, and make it worth their time by getting as many boxes as possible at once.

I'd break them down and fold them like a hot dog then put them where your feet usually go and use your passenger footrests.

Yup. This is the reason to cultivate friendships with people who own larger vehicles than yours. :)

While they're not super large, the USPS will give you free boxes and they'll be delivered to you free. Go online at www.usps.com and check it out. OK, they're not super large but you get them for nothing and you won't have to worry about cramming them on to your scooter so it's all a compromise, right?

You couldn't do too many at a time, but how about sitting on them?

And you just got there - you're not moving back are you?

This may work if you can cram them but a stack of boxes isn't so easy to compress.

I hauled a few outdoor signs this way once. They were 18" x 24". I only had a few blocks to go but it was not easy or particularly safe. They were in the way of everything!
