SXSW "Moped" Fatalities

Post by jrsjr »

Apparently a drunk driver fleeing a sobriety stop ran through the barricades that block off the SXSW area and ran over a "moped" in the street, killing both the driver and passenger. I hope it's not somebody we know. Either way, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to their families and loved ones.

I saw that this morning. I bet it wasn't a 'moped' at all.

Bad news for that guy. TX takes very unkindly to that (capital murder charges) and the possible attempted murder of a police officer.

If convicted, that could be serious business.

My heart goes out to the loved ones.

And it wasn't just the moped rider and passenger. It was 23 other people in the crowd too. So stupid.

It was a scooter. I haven't been able to find what kind. Friends were at the scene. Horrifying.

Tragic accidents are difficult enough to accept. This was no accident. It went far beyond a substance abuser trying to avoid arrest. It was evil. We know how to deal with that in Texas.

As some one that got on the wrong side of a stoned/drunk driver (18 yo doing 65mph) in a head on the only thing that saved me was being in heavy full size truck and seat belts...I can tell you their families are going to go through hell....in my case I was his first offense AS AN ADULT and the charges where plea bargin down to 18 months....20 year later I still have disabilities and facing surgeries again.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid it will go the way mine did.....a token gesture of punishment at best.

From what I read today this person has a rap sheet already so I don't think that TX court will go easy on him.
