Modern Buddy

hey about to pick up a 170 tomorrow was wondering if any of you guys have moved yours in a suv ? i measured one and it will fit length size but height size i will have to tilt it... i have 38-39 inches of vertical while the buddy is 43 inches tall... I've looked at u haul but everyone will be closed and it will be was to expensive to rent one for that you get.

We transported my lady's yamaha vino in a jeep Cherokee.
We had to remove the mirrors, you might have to as well.
Put some plastic down because it's probably going to leak some gas.

awesome... yea thats what i was thinking.... is it true you have to wait a day to start it? since all the fluids are on one side?

It depends on how long its tipped. Sometimes it starts back up in an hour, other times it can take a day

Consider siphoning out the gas and removing the battery if it's not the sealed type. Double check your fluid levels after the trip (good idea on a used purchase anyway) and have fun!

Definitely do it with as little gas in the tank as is practical. You didn't say how you'd be holding it (mostly) upright for the trip, but if it ends up on its side, the gas cap is not designed to keep gas from flowing out in that position.

it would be slightly on its side more on the floorboard of the scooter... prob at 35-45 deg angle

Yes, most definitely siphon out as much of the gas as you can. Also, and as already suggested, put a tarp down because there will still be some left-over fluid that will find its way out. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the air filter. Check it after you get the scoot home and on level ground just to be sure it didn't get contaminated with any excess fluids sloshing around. 80 miles is a long trip but if the weather's decent have you thought about a friend driving you to the pick-up point and then you riding the scooter back home? If you're confident in the scooter's mechanical condition, this would be a better alternative to having to wrestle it in and out of an SUV and worry about fluid spills

After hauling it, and when you are ready to start it, I suggest:
- pull the plug out
- with the ignition off, kick it over a few times
- then reinstall the plug and go for it

The reason is, if any excess fuel or oil manages to get into the cylinder, doing the above will clear it out. This assures you won't bend the piston rod, trying to compress liquid, which doesn't compress so well.

got it back... fit perfectly with no room to spare in a 2013 escape... going to let it sit over night before i start it tomorrow... thanks for the help guys
