Is there anything we need to do to "winterize" our

Post by pugbuddy »

I bought my scooter in the summer and, with winter upon us, am wondering if i need to do anything special to "winterize" it. I plan to keep it in the garage (unheated) but other than that have no major plans other than driving it--unless it snows.

no need to "winterize" if plan on riding it regularly.

The winterizing process is a way to preserve you bike if it is in storage and/or or not ridden thru the winter.

yes, you need to put Stabl or SeaFoam in the gas tank.

Fill the gas tank up, put in appropriate amount of Stabl or SeaFoam in the gas tank. Run the Buddy till it has gone through the Carb (10 minutes--I'm guessing).

Some people drain the Carb and others don't.

If you don't put in Stabl or SeaFoam your carb will gunk up and you will pay around $100 to have the Carbureator cleaned.

Also, cover the buddy; some people raise it up off the tires.

Someone will post with more detail descrip than I.

If you plan on continuing to ride through the winter you really don't need to do much. If I had an electrical outlet I'd hook up a tender but I don't. Other than that I just try to cycle through my fuel within 6-8 weeks. If it snows, I use a gas stabilizer and that's about it. Even last winter, one of our worst in recent memory, I was able to ride fairly regularly. I also have 2 bikes so I have more than twice the amount of gas I need to cycle through in those 6-8 weeks.

If you plan on storing your scooter for more than a couple of months, there's a whole bunch of stuff you should do. I'll leave those answers for the folks who stop riding completely over the winter.
