2011 Blur 220i as Trade-in on 2014 Hooligan 170i
As I get older (turning 81 in early Sep.) I'm finding that scooter weight is becoming a problem. While I dearly love the looks and performance of my 2011 Blur 220i, its size, tallness and weight is intimidating. My local Buddy dealer has new Hooligans in stock and they fit and feel much better than my Blur. They look good too! Also at age 81 I don't need freeway speeds. I'm perfectly OK at 60 mph tops. The dealer has offered me $1,920 KBB trade-in value on my Blur and the out-the-door difference would be $2,500. I'm definitely tempted. What do you all think?

The trade in price for your Blur sounds pretty good.
The out the door price may be about right, with your trade in, including tax, transportation, and set-up. But somehow it feels a few hundred high; I don't have any facts to support that feeling though.
Still, sounds like a good swap.

Genuine's MSRP is $3399. Taking into account your trade-in and the out-the-door price, that leaves $1021 for tax, dealer prep, destination charge, and registration. At 8% (tax in NYS as an example), tax would be around $272. That leaves $749 for dealer prep, destination and registration.
What's the dealer charging you for the above?

The $2500 OTD difference was a quick off the cuff quote by the sales guy with no breakdown as to dealer prep, freight charges, sales tax, etc. but I suspect it's negotiable. Especially as to accessories such as a top case and windshield if there is such a thing. Yes, I like the KBB $1920 trade in price as I paid $2,350 for the scooter last July making my cost of ownership, if I do the deal, $430. Spread over the 10 months that I've owned the Blur that's just $43 a month. Far less than if I had rented the bike. Yeah, I think I might just proceed with the deal. But which color? The military green or the matte black? Decisions, decisions.OldGuy wrote:The trade in price for your Blur sounds pretty good.

It sounds good to me.
Guy has had a Blur on CL here for months @ 1850. Not moving.
Last year this same Blur was on CL for a lot longer and then the above guy bought it.
Give it the ''heave ho'' at the dealership and go for the matte green!
And we expect a full ride report!

Sounds like there is some wiggle room in the price. If you are satisfied with the final deal, then that's all you need.
I was coveting the Blur when it first came out, but was surprised at how tall it was.
It's important to feel comfortable with your ride, and seems that the Hooligan does that for you. It doesn't hurt that it is a cool looking ride.
You mention you are OK at a 60 top speed, but based on the specs, it should easily do more than that once broken in. Have fun and let us know how it works out!

Sounds decent!
Maybe if they are determined to charge you a bit, play the age card and say "well, at that price would you throw in the first couple of services?"
It's hard for the dealer to lose $$ on a sale, but a little wiggle room on labor isn't hard to come by, especially if you're a good customer.

No "might" about it. The dealer must sell the Blur before he gets anything out of this deal, so that limits how far he will go on price. Trade-ins are a convenience for the buyer and certainly there are costs involved.KrispyKreme wrote:But there is a trade-in involved so this might make a difference...........
