I am the relatively happy owner of a new Buddy 50cc, but after less than a week it won't seem to start (electric or kick). Though, admittedly, the kicking could be my own lack of skill, my neighbor who is far more mechanically inclined than I came over and tried to kick it and couldn't either.
Obviously, my scooter is under warranty. But I'd really rather not take the time to call roadside assistance to get it to the store, etc. Especially not if I'm making a simple newbie mistake. What do I need to check and do first?
Along the same lines, does anyone know of any company that offers affordable scooter insurance? Particularly against theft and damage. Progressive was quoting me like.. $600 a year online for loss coverage.
Check to make sure you didn't accidently hit the kill switch. And as far as insurance that seems absurdly high. I pay about $265 a year for full coversge through Safety Insurance for my 125 and I have heard of people paying even less than that.
Newbie question, but where is my kill switch, and how do I see if I accidently hit it? It's not out of the question. And yeah $600 is way too much from the numbers I've seen, even living in the city.
Its to the right of the speedometer right above the ignition button. If its flicked down it won't start it has to be up. If your scooter is new this is likely the culprit.
For future reference, one tip about the kickstarter on the Buddy 50: I've found that it is necessary to open the throttle a little during the kick to get it to work. Without that, you can kick it over and over and over as hard as humanly possible, without any success.
