Fuel spurts from my drilled gas cap when releasing stand.

Post by k1dude »

I've had my Buddy for 6 years. But for some reason this summer, I began to loose power going up hills when it was over 100 degrees. It was the typical hurky-jerky stuttering. I have no idea why it was fine the past 5 summers and not this summer. Nevertheless, I drilled my gas cap and it seems to have solved the problem.

But now I have a new problem.

Whenever my tank is more than 1/2 full and I lower the Buddy from it's center stand, the impact causes the fuel in the tank to spurt through the drilled holes in the gas cap and all over the fueling deck. Fortunately it hasn't spilled into the pet carrier...........yet.

And yes, I drilled the holes offset from each other just like in the DIY photos here on MB.

Does the modified gas cap that comes from Genuine have the same problem? If not, does anyone have a link to the Genuine one on Scooterworks site? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Or is it only available by calling Genuine?

I did the same mod to my gas cap and your problem sounds strange. Is the rubber seal in working order?

Edit-I searched for awhile and found no vented cap for the Buddy. Calling Genuine may help, but when I called Scooterloungeonline.com a few years back they said they did the mod themselves.

Uhhh.......

I am sofa king we Todd it.

The cap was on crooked. The weird thing is, I double checked that it wasn't crooked when it started happening, yet I obviously put it on crooked again.

Nevermind. Nothing to see here folks. Move along. Juuuuust an idiot.

Dude, that's a happy ending. Sometimes it takes me two or three tries to get the cap on straight. :?
