Bag of washers sound
Hi All,
So, I have had my Buddy 50 for about 3 weeks, and am really loving it! I have noticed a strange noise though, and am wondering if it is "normal". When I startup my Buddy in the morning, I usually hear what sounds like a bag of washers jingling around from the vibrations. (not sure how else to describe it). As I let it warm up, it sometimes seems to go away for a little bit, but if I apply some gas and let go, it comes back. I don't really hear it as I am riding (to be expected due to road/wind noise), until I slow back down for a light or stop sign. As things warm up, it does lessen in volume, but I can still hear it. I took it too my local dealer, and after a couple of minutes of listening (which of course the rattle was very minimal) they thought it might be normal and coming from the transmission area, but I have not heard it on any other Buddy 50.
Just wondering if anybody had some ideas I can go back to the dealer with. (It wont be for a couple of weeks though since they are moving to their new location in Denver, which thankfully is closer to where I live!)

Keys?
This may sound goofy, but do you possibly have a keychain with lots hanging from it?
Even my fairly skimpy set on a carabiner does rattle at times; especially on startup.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Ahh, this is where it gets interesting. It is a used scooter (2012 Buddy 50 with 2500 miles on it) I purchased from the Dealer. (The scooter was original sold new by the Dealer, and all required services performed by them) They performed a tune up service before they sold it, so maybe something got loose. I just found it weird that the Dealer's mechanic thought it was a "normal" sound.k1dude wrote:Take the bag of washers out of your pet carrier.![]()
It sounds like something is loose somewhere. I would have the dealer that assembled it give it a once over to make sure everything is tight. It isn't uncommon for something to work loose in the first few weeks when a scooter is brand new.

Found it.
Hi all, took the Scooter to Sportique (they are great), and they popped it up onto the rack. They pretty much disassembled everything searching for the rattle, and then found it. The culprit was the metal mount for the ignition coil. It has broken off the weld, and was rattling on the frame. They said they have seen it before, esp. since it is a very thin piece of metal. They remounted it (many zip ties
) and all is good. While they had everything apart they did a quick look at everything and the trans was in great shape, and the rollers were actually previously upgraded to Dr Pully Sliding Weights, so that was a nice find.
I also had some strange electrical issue, where my blinkers would not always work and make a loud buzzing noise. Apparently the wire that went into a fuse was not properly attached, so another issue fixed.
If you are in Denver, I learned that Sportique is opening the new store on Broadway tomorrow for sales, and should be completely moved over by the end of the month.
