Hello Modern Buddy. I'm doing the 500 mile service on my 170i. Can an experienced owner tell me if that is the O2 sensor I see coming out of the valve cover?
I assume I leave that attached to the valve cover, is that correct? My 125 doesn't have one of these. Thank you!

O2 sensors are used in exhaust gasses only.
PCV?

I agree with Greg, that's probably the PCV valve coming out of the valve cover. And if my mechanical memory is correct, the little ball in the PCV valve should move around freely.

Go through the pet carrier and disconnect, then take off the cap. Perform valve adjustment. Reverse. Saved $100.

I did my 500 mile service including valve adjustment. That extra contraption plugged into the valve cover is some type of an electrical sensor. It is connected to the wiring harness. No problem, there was enough length to leave it plugged in. It was long enough to set the valve cover on the floorboard while I checked the valves. Since I had to remove the CVT cover to rotate the crank, I figured I would like to know the stock roller weight. I removed the variator. Stock rollers weigh 13 grams. I just happened to have a new set of 12 gram Dr. Pulley sliders. In they went. Now all we need is warm weather with no snow.

That's the engine temperature sensor for the EFI. It's fairly easy to disconnect-you do have to press a little release tab near the wire end of the plastic connector before it will pull off. I prefer to disconnect it rather than let the cam cover hang by that thin wire as I tend to get klutzy.

DeeDee, how did the 12 gram Dr. Pulley sliders work out?

I installed them about 250 miles ago. My scooter only has 750 on the odometer, so it is still pretty stiff. I have had outstanding experience with sliders in my 50cc Yamaha C3. I don't know if they make a difference or not at this point. Start from a dead stop is smooth, acceleration is good. My 170i wasn't broken in, so i don't have anything to really compare it to. I do believe the Genuine Buddy stock variator and rollers are really high quality. (not much of an answer, is it?)

Thanks DeeDee. Thinking about getting those too but I may wait until I need new sliders.
