How many miles on your 50cc Buddy Stock Engine

Post by DeeDee »

I'm posting this here since the Roughhouse and the Buddy share the same 2t engine. I picked up a 2013 Roughhouse today. Only has 33 miles.
Can you long time owners please tell me how long one of these will last?
I put 20,000 miles on a 2008 Yamaha C3. Only work outside of routine maintenance was a fuel pump at 15k. The fellow I sold it to is still riding it. How long will the 50cc Genuine two stroke engine last? Thank you!

Restricted they'll last forever, derestricted I'd start to worry about 8K for the top end. Cheap and easy rebuild. The bottom end is bulletproof.

It's all dependent on quality of oil and riding style.

Thank you avescoots1134. Do you ever see the crank seals go bad on these motors?

I haven't seen or heard of any. PGO knows how to make good gaskets and seals.

Off the top of my head, I only know of two Buddy 50's that have come through the shop with over 10k. One is still restricted with 14k and the other one has been very abused with 11k but is still going. There could be more but they probably head over to the cheaper shops to be duct-taped into submission. In New Orleans, the bad streets are the enemy of scooters, not so much mileage.

I'm up to 17,000 on my current Buddy without a rebuild. My previous Buddy did about 40,000 with a rebuild.

You put 40,000 miles on a 50cc two stroke?

Damn.
