RIP Ken Stabler - sorry, Krispy

Post by Syd »

I saw this on the news last night. Ken was a big deal long ago. In fact, that was so long ago even I like the Raiders.

Thanks for the post. I almost made one myself. :) Poor guy was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in February and now he's gone. A preventative colonoscopy earlier may have saved him, but who knows.

I do know that he deserves to be in the HOF. It's amazing how many people I've heard say, "He isn't in the hall?". Again, thanks, Syd.

I think every QB that won a Super Bowl in the 70s is in the HOF except him. Certainly deserves to be elected.

Yeah, as a Raider fan its frustrating. Tim Brown just got in a year after Andre Reed did. Brown's numbers are better in every category, and he didn't have a hall of fame QB throwing to him.

Check these stats out- Lynn Swann- Rec-336 Yds-5462 TDs-51. Inducted into the hall 2001.

Cliff Branch- Rec-501 Yds-8685 TDs-67. No hall.

Jim Plunkett won 2 superbowls. Lester Hayes was the best on the game for about 3 years. There is clearly a anti-Raider bias. Me thinks it may have to do with Al Davis. Rant over. Thanks for the sentiment George.

No problem, KK. Even though I live so close to where the Giants/Jets play I could spit and hit the parking lot, if you were alive back then, no matter what team you rooted for, who could forget all those Raiders-Steelers games? If they didn't get you excited, you weren't a fan of the game!

If it weren't for the 70's Steelers, the Raiders would have won at least another super bowl during that time. The team I really felt bad for(and liked) was the Oilers back in that era. Earl Campbell and Bum Phillips and co. had some great teams, but they couldn't beat the Raiders or the Steelers. It was the best era in the NFL in my opinion.

Had Stabler played in NY it may have gotten him more national attention but I don't know if it would've gotten him into the Hall. He played in an era with Bradshaw, Staubach, Tarkenton, Namath and Griese.

While Stabler is remembered as a Raider in his prime, he also played 1/3 of his career for other teams. Superstars back then finished their careers with the same team. Except for Namath who tried to play one more year with another team.
