What feels like an engine/throttle surge after 45 mph

Hello, new poster here, recently about 2 months ago i acquired a Buddy 170i and i have to say i love it. Problem is now that ive logged some miles, it was nearly new when i got it, there seems to be what i can best describe as a throttle surge when i hold it at around 45 mph or better. Also i can not seem to reach top speed, which at first i could push it over 60+ without alot of issue now it doesnt seem to to want to get there, taps out around 55-60 max.

It is hot where i live in Alabama but even when its cool i seem to have this issue. I have changed the oil, cleaned the thimble filter, put a new air filter on and changed the spark plug but i still have the problem. Odd thing is that i dont really hear anything obvious. When it does have the little bit of surge of course the engine revs up a little like it would if you were opening the throttle but im holding it steady and it does this. Any help or ideas would be great, the only thing i havent gotten to do yet is some fuel treatments to maybe clean out the injectors cause im still working the tank empty.

Again Buddy 170i, new oil/air filter/spark plug.

Thanks in advance

Howdy, and welcome to MB

That sounds like a belt. You didn't mention the miles on the bike, but check the belt just to be sure.

The other "easy" thing to do is a reset on the FI system. Try that as well and see if it goes away.
