Hiflo and Sentec Oil Filter Comparison

I went through my prior stock of Sentec/Scooterworks oil filters. Sad really, since the burn rate is 2 per year with regular 1000 mile changes on both our scoots. (My cardiologist will be happy, I ride a bicycle to work ~90 days/year).

Now that I have Amazon prime, the price difference between Sentec and HiFlo filters is even larger than before, so I ordered a bunch of the Hiflos, risking that the slot end would be a PITA.

Before installation, I took a bunch of pictures side-by-side and put words between them to put you to sleep. I also wrangled as many equivalent part numbers as possible for future reference.

Frankly, they both look like oil filters and I don't have much of a favorite. I want the 17 mm hex end on the Sentec combined with the pre-oiled flat gasket and tight sealed wrapper on the Hiflo. Also, torque spec in foot-lbs, since I don't have a Nm wrench.

It occurs to me I should comb through the forum archives and see if anyone has tried non-oem filter sizes on their scoots and add links to the table at the end.

Edit: After seeing this thread: topic22705.html, I note that the Hiflo catalogue now says the HF197 is for the buddy. It has a hex end!

The HF197 is the filter I've been using on my Blur for the last 3 or 4 oil changes with no issues. I didn't know about the Sentec filters.

Hi-Flo, only because I know the name. I can get them at my local Cycle Gear, always in stock. Dont care if they are a few dollars over a online store, prefer to support the brick n mortars. Oh, and the Hi Flo filters I get have the hex end, the slot end are the old stock Hi Flo's. Cant believe the slot ends are still out there!
