12V adapter

I bought my Reflex used and the 12V doesn't work; nothing I plug into it turns on. I have one in the inside cover under the handle bars and it appears to be OEM as it conforms exactly, not a cutout. I tested it with a light stick and it seems the power source is backward somehow; the light goes on when I touch the sidewall with the point and the clamp on a ground.
Seems it should turn the light stick on when I touch the bottom of the 12V instead no?
Anyway, I haven't much luck trying to get a wiring schematic to trace the connection back to the battery. Any help?

Did you check the fuse for the outlet? I had the same issue with my Buddy 170 and it turned out to be a blown power outlet fuse.

I just checked an online wiring schematic and it shows no auxiliary power port. Also don't see it listed as a standard feature. I'm 99.99% certain that the +12 should be on the center contact, with the outer ring being the ground. It almost has to be an aftermarket job that was reverse-wired.

I just can't figure out where its getting juice from. I will take a pic of it this afternoon so you can see what it looks like. Is it possible the wiring to the battery is reversed? I haven't tried to figure out what wires on the battery might be just for the 12V outlet but everything eles seems to work just fine.
It really seems to be OEM though. If not, whoever put it in did an amazing job.

Since the schematic doesn't show any adapter, you're going to have to work backwards from the adapter itself. I am willing to bet that it was spliced in to the existing wiring somewhere well downstream of the battery, and that's where the fault lies. Try this:
Disconnect the battery.
Set your multimeter to test resistance (or continuity if so equipped)
Connect one lead to the positive battery cable and the other to part of the adapter that gave you the 12 volt reading.
Remove one fuse at a time and see if the resistance goes to infinity, or if continuity is lost.
At the very least, this should tell you if the adapter is directly wired to the battery, or if it's spliced into a fuse-protected branch of the electrical system.

Thanks. I was hoping I would not have to go that far but oh well

You might also check with the Honda Reflex 250 owner's forum. It's a very active one and as a former Relex owner, I got a lot of good information from it. They should be able to steer you in the direction of a wiring schematic. BTW, I don't think your adapter is stock. It's a PO add on which could be part of your problem.

BTW, here's a link to a PDF copy of the '01 - '07 shop manual. Full wiring diagrams start on page 22-1.
