Any tips on finding a high performance starter motor for my Buddy 125?
I swear Scooterworks had one, but what I was sent doesn't fit. It's for GY6, but not the Buddy. Rear mounting bracket is in a different location.
I've got an NYC cylinder kit, head and carb on it, and the OE start just isn't up the job on a high compression motor.
Thx

To the best of my knowledge the OEM is the only one that will fit, What is your compression?
I have the 161 kit and have never had a problem with the starter. How is your battery?

I haven't check the actual PSI of compression, but I probably should. Yes, good Shorai battery, and tried others along with a battery tender.BuddyRaton wrote:To the best of my knowledge the OEM is the only one that will fit, What is your compression?

You got me thinking though ... I haven't tried a different OE starter. Maybe I'll pull one from my stock bike.

Interesting. My Blur engine has a big bore kit, stroker crank, modified performance head and performance cam, and the stock starter. Haven't had any starting problems yet. The CDI unit I have advances the timing and causes some odd starting noises depending upon where the crank happens to be when starting, but it has never failed to start.

Ever swap the starters to see if thats what was wrong? My old Zuma 125 (I know, not the same scooter) had a mid-level bbk on it and the starter would struggle a bit, so I just ran thicker wires to it-problem solved. Yes, I thought that was a strange solution to, but it started great afterwards. Oh, and please tell us you have the correct battery charger for your lithium battery, and not one made for AMG/wet cell batteries!
