Buddy 50cc stalling and acceleration issues

Post by Weejun »

I have a 2015 Genuine Buddy Riot 50cc with about 500 miles.

About a month into owning my bike, (Spring 2015) I noticed that it would lose power, accelerating out of a stop. ie. needing to feather the throttle to keep it going) The dealer told me to disengage the choke (white clip, under seat) and run it like that to see if I noticed a difference.

It ran fine until the fall, when I noticed an increase in the loss of acceleration issue. In November it got worse, and I began to also experience stalling. Generally it would start fine, but would die when coming to a stop. Restarting (using electric starter) required multiple attempts.

I've had the carb looked at, and am now having the choke assembly (on warranty) replaced.

I use premium gas, haven't used any additives (Seafoam), and keep the oil topped up.

I've gone through the various posts and see similar issues, but don't see any definitive answers.

It's gotten to the point that I don't want to take it out and it's not safe to drive in this condition.

Help!

Sounds like a fuel tap issue or the filter inside the tank. The main symptom of this is the feeling of running out of gas and taking a while to restart while the fuel tap catches up.

If the fuel tap sticks open, it can leak gas out the carb after sitting for a little while if your carb isn't perfect. This isn't your case.

Buddy 50's don't suffer from the tank emissions problems like the 125+ models do so you're good there

Thanks for this - I will check it out.

Update - still having the issue, after having the choke assembly replaced. The stalling does seem to diminish after about 15 mins of driving, but still prevalent at start up etc.

I know exactly what your talking about, I rode around on my 50cc for 5 years like that before I finally fixed it. My problem was in the carb, and it was so obvious that I can't believe I missed it the first 4 times I cleaned it. I had sediment in the jet, very small but apparently enough to stop the engine. I cut off a string from my guitar and ran it threw the jet holes. When it was all put back together it was idling for the first time in 5 years. Not sure if this is the same problem as you, just letting you know I feel your pain and there is light at the end of the tunnel. It was very nerve racking to drive it and praying it wouldn't die. At a stop light I always had one hand on the brake and one hand twisting the throttle.
