Should I buy it 2006 Buddy 125

Post by jiminminn »

I currently own a Honda Elite 110 and enjoy riding it. You might even say I got bit by the bug. I have my eye on a 2006 Buddy 125 that has less than 1000 miles on it. I believe this was the first year of the Buddy 125, is there anything inherently wrong with the early years of this model?

What would this be worth in the midwest?

Other than the usual put fresh nonOx gas in it and maybe some seafoam are there any other things that I should I do to it. If it hasn't been run in a while should I ultrasound the carb?

A non-running Buddy 125 with a title that has sat for a while is in the ~$600 range if the cosmetics are decent.

Keep in mind, it's 10yrs old now and will likely need the tires and belt changed if they are original.

Thanks for the heads up on tires and belt, I will check those. I believe the scooter runs just fine. So it is a fully functional scooter with 750 original miles what would that be worth?

The only thing people mention about the 06 is the little headlight assembly and something about changing the bulb out for improved lighting. Other than that I would stay well under $1000. Even if its super mint, I would stay well under $1000. The tires may need replacing, and I would not sweat the belt that much unless you plan on using it for a cross country ride or something major. Personally, I would offer around $750. It's a Buddy 125-great scoot just not rare.

A couple of years back at the end of summer I picked up a 2006 with 2,500 miles for $500. It had been garage stored it's whole life and was in pretty good shape. It had not run in a year, so the carb was gunked up. Took a $30.00 carb vacuum diaphragm and a couple of hours of work, and it ran like new. I sold it in the spring for $1,400. The Buddy 125 is an amazing scooter. Bullet proof tried and true engine design. Easy to work on, and it will do 60 with a fairly heavy rider on it. I'm in Denver, so scooter prices are probably higher than where you are. We have year round riding weather. I always try to buy for as little as possible. I don't want to insult the seller, but the money is better off in my pocket than his. 2006 is basically the same scooter they are selling in 2016 with the exception of the headlight size as others have pointed out. IMO smaller headlight barely worth mentioning. Buy it. You won't be sorry.

Your Honda Elite 110 is 4 years newer and has an ultra reliable fuel injected engine. Its under seat storage capacity is huge compared to the Buddy series. If it were me, I'd stick with the Elite 110 as going with a 4 year older scooter which appears to have carburetor issues seems like a big step backwards. Also, going cheaper, as some have suggested, isn't always the best approach. We have, or used to have, a list member who swapped her Buddy 125 Pyscho for a Honda Elite 110. If she's reading this it would be nice to hear from her regarding her Elite 110 vs. Buddy 125 experience. Whimscootie are you out there?

I'd get it and keep both. Nothing wrong with having a backup. Whenever my brother or friends need a bike to ride when they come visit me, I've always got them covered.

We have a 2007 125 Buddy. It is a solid scooter and continues to give good service. The design is simplicity itself, so routine maintenance is quite straight forward.

thanks for all the input guys and gals. I decided to pass on the older buddy. In the process of searching I cam across a 2012 kymco People 150 still new in the crate. I think that is they next purchase.
Can't wait until it warms up in Minnesota.
