Replacing Right Hand Throttle Grip on Buddy?

Hello,

Has anyone out there removed and replaced the right hand throttle grip on a buddy? What steps are needed? The employee at scooter lounge said it involved removing the upper cover and the controls in order to change it....what is involved with that exactly?

I'm somewhat handy but is this really complicated?

You're looking to replace your original grips? You can either cut the old ones off or use an air compressor to get the old ones off. Replacements will be 7/8" on the left and 1" for the throttle tube.

Yes, just the one throttle grip on the right is a little ragged, and I want to replace it with the same one. So it can be cut off - no need to do what the scooter lounge employee mentioned?

If you use aftermarket grips, you can carefully cut them off and install the new ones. Stock grips come installed on the throttle tube which involves all that disassembly.

If you are replacing the stock throttle grip with another stock grip and are not just cutting the rubber grip away you will have to take off the upper cover (remove the retaining screws that come up through the lower), remove the headlight bezel ring, probably detach the speedometer cable and instrument cluster electrical plug, and open up the right hand switch assembly (two screws) in order to be able to disconnect the throttle tube from the throttle cable.

When you go to to put it all back together, you have to do everything in reverse. Also ensure that you line up the little alignment pin on the inside of the back plate of the switch assembly in the alignment hole on the back of the handlebars.

Thank you for the responses. I think it sounds a little more complex than I was expecting! I don't think I want to attempt it after all. I appreciate everyone though!!!!!

Ironically, it's actually easier to do than it sounds. Just be careful to pay attention to how everything came apart and it shouldn't be a problem.
