Speedo and Odo issue

Post by bigcanoe »

Hi! My wife has a 2013 Buddy 125 with about 350 miles on it. We have only had it a few months, second hand.

Today she reported that when she takes off under WOT (or any gas) the speedo reads 0. If she lets off the throttle it catches up, so to speak. Occasionally it will dip down below normal/accurate as shes keeping a constant speed. I had her trouble shoot the odometer and she said that when the speedo is reading 0, the odo is not advancing, but is when the speedo is reading.

Any more ideas on what I can do to trouble shoot or what part I might need to replace?

Thanks!

Kinda makes me wonder how many miles it actually has, if the odo isn't advancing during certain actions, like accelerating.

First thing I'd do is check the speedo cable connection. Could be loose, but just enough connection to sometimes read.

It should be accurate as it just started happening today and she's been riding it for months.

I just wanted to report back. I took the headstock apart and the speedo cable was not attached. I threaded it back on, tightened it up, problem solved! We also did the gear oil and engine oil change. Good stuff, thank you forum peeps :)
